Imagine being obsessed about something as a child that, as a grown-up, more specifically, as a late teen, you took a leap of faith and followed that obsession. Well, that’s my history with fashion. But let me start with the foundation of it.
As a kid, fashion has always been my passion/obsession, and I take this from my family. My grandmother had 11 kids and made clothes for all of them. When she died, my mother took her 35+ years old sewing machine to our house, and like my grandmother, my mother started to make clothes for my sister and me. As a curious kid, I loved playing with her sewing machine, pretending that I could sew the leftover fabrics to create something new for me -which, most of the time, ended up with me breaking her needles and getting into trouble.
Throughout my teens, fashion and the beauty industry became a way to cope with bullying and the hardship of the teenage years. I became even more obsessed with red carpets, modeling, clothes, shoes, and everything related to fashion, and for a long time, they were my closest friends -sad but pretty. In 2017 I made the decision to move to America because, like in every movie/show I watched (The devil wears Prada, Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, ANTM), America was the place where people understood the concept of fashion.
While fashion was not the main reason I moved to America- specifically, Chicago- it was definitely one of the big reasons. Since 2017 I have taken a couple of fashion classes at the SAIC, and in 2019, I participated in my first fashion show and had the opportunity to work as a model for many photographs. Before the pandemic, I started to work as a fashion influencer/content creator after building a fashion community on Instagram. While the position is not exactly what I had dreamed of, in some way, I am living the life of my inner child dream – Working with Fashion. And this is what I want to share here.
